Professor Liu Xinmin’s Team from Ningbo University Wins Excellence Award in Innovation Challenge
Multidisciplinary Collaboration Tackles Intelligent Vector Surveillance and Control Challenges

On December 10, 2025, the 14th China Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition—Innovation Challenge (Ningbo Division) successfully concluded at the Convention and Exhibition Center of the Royal Hotel in the Eastern New City. The “Research Team on AI-based Fine Animal Behavior Detection and Precision Vector Control Technology,” led by Professor Liu Xinmin of Ningbo University, presented their project titled “Research on Intelligent Whole-Area Vector Detection and Precision Control Technology” during the defense session. With original achievements such as multimodal AI-integrated sensing and quantitative ethological evaluation, the team ultimately received the “Excellence Award for Solutions.”

Guided by the Ningbo Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, this competition focused on major technological demands across various industrial sectors, promoting in-depth industry-academia-research integration through the “challenge” format. During the specialized roadshow in Venue 3, Professor Liu Xinmin, representing the team, systematically defended their intelligent vector monitoring and control technology, detailing the project’s technical approach, innovations, and application prospects.

The project aims to construct an AI-powered system integrating whole-area vector monitoring, early warning, eradication, and control decision-making. Leveraging core technologies such as multimodal data fusion and quantitative animal behavior analysis, it seeks to advance from “experience-based control” to “data-driven” scientific practices. The initiative brings together multidisciplinary research capabilities from Ningbo University. In addition to Professor Liu Xinmin as the project leader, Dr. Yang Mengjie from the Faculty of Medicine provided critical support in experimental design and data analysis for animal behavior studies, while Dr. Huang Endai from the Institute of Medical Engineering contributed to the integration of multimodal sensing systems and embedded hardware debugging. This collaboration formed a complete innovation chain spanning laboratory animal science, medicine, artificial intelligence, and engineering technology.

This award not only highlights Ningbo University’s strength in interdisciplinary innovation but also offers cutting-edge technological pathways and data-driven decision support for vector control in Ningbo and across China. It reflects the commitment of academic research teams to addressing societal health needs.
